Walkers Carry Out, Inc.: A Hidden Gem for Southern Comfort Food in Northern Alabama

If you are on Brindley Mountain on the weekend you HAVE to go here to eat. Excellent food, super friendly staff, and if you are lucky, there might be some farm raised eggs for sale! LOVE this place. I had the small catfish fillet cooked perfectly!

Walkers Carry Out was one of those places I passed by for months without giving it a second thought. Until one day, the lines of cars just gave me an indication of what type of food I might be missing. Ever since making the stop for a delicious platter of chicken tenders and fries, I’ve been hooked ever since. Besides the chicken, the fish has also been a favorite of mine. However, nothing on the menu warrants a bad review in my opinion, it’s all just a matter of taste. Furthermore, the staff are usually very accommodating, and I’ve rarely had to wait more than 15 minutes when making a to-go order. The phone lines can sometimes be difficult to reach, but that is just because this establishment is so popular when it is open, so don’t be afraid to go in and order in-person for a short wait. Overall, this is one of my favorite places in all of Northern Alabama to get a great helping of Southern cooking. You will not be doing yourself a disservice by stopping by.

Best secret in North alabama. Fish and chips to the BBQ. Don't tell people you don't like about this place. If you been there you know it's the best.

Ribs had no bark, beans were right out of a can no added flavor, potato salad way too much pickle juice. All you could taste was pickles nothing else.

I've had Walker's on my bookmark list for quite a while. It's a little hard to get in as they're only open at the end of the week/weekend. I finally found a good opportunity this week. This spot does barbeque, catfish, and chicken fingers. There's a fairly large parking lot and lots of space inside, as well as a drive-through. The inside is basic but features some country decor (like, redneck country, not cowboy country, lol). You order at the counter. The ladies' bathroom was clean. Service was...nice, I guess, but I couldn't help but feel like I was getting looked at funny when I didn't know the standard protocol for ordering/getting sauce/picking up food, etc. Definitely a "local" vibe. The very loud conversation about the election a large table of patrons was engaged in didn't help. That's not the restaurant's fault, but it still wasn't what I wanted to listen to while I ate. Anyway, I wound up ordering the smaller chicken finger plate since those came highly recommended in reviews. The plate comes with fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies. They call your number when your food is ready and you pick it up at the counter. There's a large array of sauce bottles so you can grab your favorites to take to the table. I was a little concerned about the sauces that usually need refrigeration just sitting out on the counter, but the bottles themselves were cold so I guess they figured out some kind of system to keep them chilled. I was...frankly disappointed in the tenders. They had a very strange, slightly cakey breading (rather than crumbly/crispy) that got soggy and soft very quickly. They reminded me of Chili's chicken crispers, which I really don't like. Ranch improved them some but I don't think I finished a single tender. The fries were frozen-fried crinkle cuts and needed a scoch more salt. I skipped the slaw. I enjoyed the hush puppies dipped in ketchup! Very oniony. Overall, nothing super objectionable but just didn't wow me too much. If I return in the future, I'll try some barbeque instead.

Some of the absolute best food around! The porky fries are my personal favorite!

My wife and I share a large fish and chips…..hot and good every time. Wish they still offered onion rings, though……eat it in the parking lot.
